Developing Soft Skills in Student Organization

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of Yogyakarta State University (UNY) held an inauguration ceremony for the management of student organizations (ormawa). The event also witnessed the transfer of leadership, one of which was at the level of the Student Executive Board (BEM) FEB UNY from Farras Raihan, who served as Chair for the 2023 period, to Fajar Aji Ramdani, a student of the Economics Education Study Program class of 2021, who will serve as Chair for the 2024 period.

In his speech, the Dean of FEB UNY, Prof. Dr. Siswanto, M.P.D., stated that this inauguration is an important momentum to establish oneself and make Ormawa a forum for self-development, both in terms of hard skills and soft skills. Siswanto emphasized the importance of soft skill development, which is often not obtained in the classroom but through active experience in student organizations.

"The professional world today increasingly demands soft skills that are not always obtained in college. Therefore, take advantage of the organization as a place to develop yourself. Know the boundaries in democracy, let's become partners, and work together to develop the faculty or university," said the dean.

Siswanto also added, "If there are differences of opinion regarding policies, let's communicate through a polite and pleasant dialog forum. The budget for organizational activities will not be reduced, and programs will be directed towards achieving the university's Key Performance Indicators (IKU), especially in achieving achievements and involvement in the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) curriculum. Every program must be carefully planned from the start of the year, not sudden or without planning."

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the administrators of Ormawa, students, and supervisors at FEB UNY, who also provided support in efforts to develop student potential in the academic and non-academic fields.

"We hope that with this inauguration, the administrators of Ormawa FEB UNY can carry out their duties well and can be an example for other students in developing their potential and contributing to the progress of the faculty and university," said the Dean. (tian-fdhl)
