Accounting Education Study Program of FEB UNY Collaborates with SMK Ma’arif in DIY to Conduct AI-Based Learning Media Training

The Accounting Education Study Program of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Yogyakarta State University (FEB UNY), in collaboration with SMK Ma’arif schools in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), organized training on the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based learning media for SMK Ma’arif teachers. Around 25 teachers, who teach accounting as well as crafts and entrepreneurship subjects at SMK Ma’arif in DIY, took part in the program. The training team consisted of Dr. Ponty SP Hutama, M.Si., Ak., CA., Dr. Isroah, M.Si., Endra Murti Sagoro, M.Sc., Amanita Novi Yushita, M.Si., and R. Andro Zylio Nugraha, M.Acc., with support from students who served as facilitators.

The training aimed to enhance teachers’ digital teaching skills and respond to technological advancements in education by equipping them with the ability to create engaging and interactive learning media. Participants expressed that the training was highly beneficial and conveyed their hopes to apply the acquired knowledge in developing innovative and creative teaching materials. This program is expected to serve as a first step for SMK Ma’arif schools in DIY to innovate, improve the quality of education in line with technological developments, and prepare graduates to face the challenges of the workforce.

The training was conducted in two sessions. The first session was held on Thursday (July 25) at FEB UNY. The first presentation, delivered by Isroah, focused on the importance of technology in learning to produce engaging instructional media. The second session, presented by Endra Murti Sagoro, introduced participants to Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The second session took place on Tuesday (July 30) at SMK Ma’arif 1 Temon, attended by 22 participants. In this session, Endra Murti Sagoro directly guided the participants through hands-on practice in creating AI-based learning media using gamma.app and Canva. Although some participants required more time to master the applications, the training overall proceeded smoothly. This activity is expected to bring a positive impact by strengthening the competence and capability of SMK Ma’arif teachers in DIY to design engaging and interactive learning media.

This initiative is closely aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), as it promotes innovation in teaching practices through the integration of AI and digital technology in classrooms. Implicitly, it also contributes to SDG 5 (Gender Equality), by ensuring that both male and female teachers are equally empowered with digital competencies, fostering inclusivity and equal opportunities in education.
