The Faculty of Economics and Business of Yogyakarta State University (FEB UNY) held the Doctoral Promotion Session for Sholeh Hafidz, a lecturer from the Department of Management, on Thursday, 4 December 2025, at the Theater Room of FEB UNY. He successfully defended his dissertation entitled “Training Management Model for PTNBH Financial Administration Oriented Towards Growth Mindset.”

The dissertation was supervised by Prof. Dr. Lantip Diat Prasojo, M.Pd. (Vice Rector for Finance of UNY) as the promoter, and Dr. Sutirman, M.Pd. (Dean of FEB UNY) as the co-promoter. The examination panel consisted of Dr. Ani Widayati, Ed.D. as Chair of the Board of Examiners; Prof. Endang Mulyani, M.Pd. as Secretary; and Prof. Dr. E. Muhtar, M.Si., CFrA. and Prof. Dr. Tony Wijaya, M.M. as examiners.

During the session, the Chair of Examiners, Dr. Ani Widayati, officially announced that Sholeh Hafidz is the first doctoral graduate of the Doctoral Program in Economic and Business Education (PEB), Master and Doctoral Program (PMD) FEB UNY. He was also appointed as the ambassador of the study program, entrusted with contributing to academic development and strengthening the reputation of the program and the institution.

The dissertation addresses key challenges during the transition of UNY into a Legal Entity State University (PTNBH), particularly the need to enhance financial management competencies among administrative personnel. The study identified several issues, including uneven understanding of PTNBH financial principles, limited adaptation to updated regulations, coordination gaps, and the presence of fixed mindset tendencies. The absence of a structured training management system also became a major concern.

Using the Borg & Gall development model, the research produced the PROGREFI Model, a training management model designed to strengthen the financial administration capacity of PTNBH staff through the cultivation of a growth mindset. Validation results showed high expert agreement (Aiken’s V = 0.83–1.0), and field tests reported a significant increase in participants’ growth mindset scores from 3.6 to 4.5, with Wilcoxon test results indicating significance (p = 0.00001). The model was concluded to be feasible, effective, and practical for implementation.

The event was attended by faculty members from the Department of Management, the leadership of FEB UNY, representatives from the Academic Division of UNY, as well as family members. With the successful completion of the defense, Sholeh Hafidz officially earned his doctoral degree.

This research supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 4 (Quality Education) through competency development, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through improved institutional financial governance, and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) through strengthening accountability and management systems within PTNBH.

Dr. Ponty emphasized that this activity strengthens international exposure for students and supports FEB UNY’s commitment to global academic engagement. The event was also attended by FEB UNY lecturers and the Public Relations & International Partnership Division.

Before delivering her main lecture, Dr. Melanie Hassett introduced the University of Sheffield and the city where she resides. She explained that Sheffield is a centrally located city in England with a population of more than 500,000, around 10% of whom are students. Known significantly as the “home of football,” Sheffield has a rich historical influence on the development of modern football. She also encouraged FEB UNY students to consider pursuing further studies at the University of Sheffield and highlighted opportunities for international academic collaboration.

In her lecture titled “The Dynamic Landscape of International Business: Trends, Drivers, and Sustainability,” Dr. Hassett presented the foundational concepts of International Business (IB) and the driving forces behind globalization. These included technological advancement, the liberalization of trade and investment, and the rising significance of multinational enterprises. She also discussed contemporary shifts in globalization, including supply chain regionalization and geopolitical fragmentation, illustrating the growing interplay between globalization and de-globalization trends.

Her presentation concluded with an in-depth discussion on sustainable international business, addressing how global firms incorporate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) frameworks while supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Dr. Hassett emphasized that understanding sustainable strategy is essential for navigating an interconnected yet increasingly volatile global environment.

UNY Students Introduce Eco-Enzyme Making to Empower Women in Waste Management

Ten students from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) participating in the Independent Community Service Program (KKN Mandiri) at Blawong 1, Trimulyo, Jetis, Bantul, organized a workshop on eco-enzyme production with local PKK women. The initiative aimed to address the pressing issue of organic waste management in the area.

The KKN team, led by Eko Putro Tri Hartanto, an undergraduate student from Accounting Education, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB UNY), consisted of Muhammad Ali Ghufron, Thoriq Ahmad Zaidan, Angger Rangga, Syalaisha Alifia, Chela Junita, Isma Salsabila, Friska Aulia, Raissa Dian, and Fikri Zahra. The event took place in the courtyard of the Blawong 1 hamlet head’s residence, attended by around 60 members of the PKK women’s group, and officially opened by Ms. Dwi Rahayu, the Head of Blawong 1 Hamlet.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Dwi Rahayu expressed appreciation for the students’ initiative, stating that the program helped raise community awareness about turning household waste into something useful. “We’re grateful for this activity—it provides real solutions for our waste problems and motivates residents to take part in environmental preservation,” she said.

The workshop featured Ms. Tsalis Siswanti, Chair of the Eco-Enzyme Community of Bantul and a member of Eco-Enzyme Nusantara, who provided a detailed explanation about the concept, benefits, ingredients, and fermentation process of eco-enzymes. She guided participants through the dos and don’ts of the process, answering practical questions such as how to proceed when only limited organic materials are available. “If you only have three types of fruit or vegetable peels, that’s fine—just don’t seal the container tightly until it meets the proper mixture. You can leave it open for up to one week,” she advised.

According to Eko Putro Tri Hartanto, the KKN group initially planned to create biopores, but limited open land and concrete-covered yards made it impractical. “We observed that organic waste is a major problem here, but most homes lack soil areas for biopores. That’s why we decided to introduce eco-enzymes as an alternative solution,” he explained. The participants, divided into six groups, enthusiastically followed the practical session, guided directly by Ms. Tsalis. Many captured photos and videos to document the activity and share them on social media.

This collaboration between UNY students and the Blawong 1 community supports the local government’s “Bantul Waste-Free 2025” program, fostering environmental awareness through small yet impactful actions. The activity also contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by promoting responsible waste management, sustainable community engagement, and cross-sector collaboration for environmental sustainability.
